After the Village of Winnebago announced the cancelation of their fireworks display due to COVID-19, Rockford's 4th of July Committee has announced the status of their events.

Rockford's 4th of July fireworks are still expected to light up the sky the night of Independence Day, as of the article. However, several associated events have been canceled for 2020. In a note on Facebook, the following events will not take place.

  • 4th of July Parade
  • 4th of July Carnival
  • Patriotic Prayer Breakfast
  • Davis Park Entertainment
  • Food Vendors

The effects of COVID-19 also have impacted the 4th of July Celebration financially, therefore $25,000 needs to be raised in a short period of time.

We have to raise roughly $85,000 in order to put on the one days event and due to the economic impact of COVID-19, we simply can't get to that point this year. We have cut our budget down to $35,000 for the fireworks. We have already paid $10,000 of that $35,000 leaving us $25,000 to raise in order to make this happen.

We, as a community, can help raise those funds on May 13, 2020, during the 4th of July Telethon on WTVO-17. Donations can also be made at www.4thandlights.com.
