I ran into a Rockford grocery store quickly yesterday to grab a couple gallons of milk and a few other things we needed, and my heart broke to see the windows and doors of the store were boarded up.

I totally understand why stores need to be prepared to protect themselves and their livelihoods from looters, but I truly can't believe this is what our nation is like right now.

I don't know how to explain it to my kids so they truly understand the important message fueling this unrest. I don't know how to calm my own fears, much less theirs. I don't know how to help or make it stop. I do know we need to make an effort to listen. Be understanding. Be kind. Be supportive. As Thomas Rhett's song says; "in a world full of hate, be a light". Please.

Now that I have spoken my piece, let's get back to the point of this article. In response to the unrest taking place across our nation, Schnucks has altered the hours of 39 of their stores throughout the Midwest, including all of them in the Rockford area.

There are 39 stores with reduced hours now through Sunday, June 7th. These stores will be open from 7AM to 7PM. These stores will not have a reserved shopping hour for seniors or those most at risk.

Pharmacies at these stores will be open from 9AM to 7PM during the week and resume their standard hours on the weekends.

Just to be clear, the temporary change of hours is in effect at all Schnucks stores in Rockford, Cherry Valley, DeKalb, Roscoe and Loves Park through this Sunday, June 7.
