Going to a handful of baby showers this year has given me a whole new perspective on the world of baby shopping.

This weekend, I had a baby shower to go to and I was looking at the baby registry to see what all they still needed.  I couldn't believe all the different kinds of things babies need.

I don't have kids of my own, so I never really ever thought about how expensive anything was in the baby world.

There are endless gadget, accessories, clothing and must-have lists... some items are worth the investment, others come with a hefty price tag many parents say simply isn't necessary.

Rockford Parents Say People Waste Money on These Baby Items

I asked on Facebook, "What's something people spend way too much money on for babies that just isn't necessary?"

Bassinets were mentioned by parents who said their babies quickly outgrew them or preferred sleeping elsewhere.  Wipe warmers were another popular response, many said babies don't mind room-temperature wipes.  Formula bottle makers and bottle washing machines also made the list, with parents saying the extra convenience didn't justify the price.

Other people said clothing, designer clothes, and baby shoes.  It's all kinda useless after a few weeks when they're so little and growing so fast!  A few even joked that expensive gender reveals deserve a spot on the list, while someone said "A college fund".  Those were clever!

Of course, every family is different, and what one parents considers essential, someone else may never use.  But if you're building a baby registry or shopping for an upcoming shower, think carefully!  What's REALLY necessary?
