Rockford ‘Gas Wars’ Continue Near Hard Rock Casino Rockford

If you're looking to save a few bucks at the gas pump this week, you might want to drive by the new casino in Rockford. 

For the last decade we've been waiting for something big to happen in Rockford near the I-90 entrance. We were promised a casino, which we got at the end of last month.

What we weren't promised was incredibly low gas prices, but we got that too!

I didn't notice anything particular about the gas stations near the casino until the week before it opened. One day I was driving to the expressway and looked up to see $3.04 on the Mobil on the East side of State Street. $3.04?! I had just paid $3.79 down the street. Why was gas only $3.04 a mile ahead of me?

Perhaps it was a misprint? Or it was that one gas variety that's always cheaper that my dad told me to never get? Nope it was 87, which is the kind I always get.

That trip I had a full tank, but on my way back into Rockford I made sure to stop at the Mobil. Well, I tried to, but I made a wrong turn, which brought me to the QuikTrip across the street, where I got gas for $2.79 a gallon.

I'm sorry, is this 2014?

$2.79 a gallon? I felt like I was stealing. But that didn't stop me from coming back to the QuikTrip for my next two fill-ups.

The last time I was there, it did go up to $2.99, but that's still the cheapest I can find in the Stateline area.

This is the only QuikTrip in Rockford, but it's surely becoming popular quickly! Have you stopped by one of the cheap gas stations yet?
