Rockford’s Record Snowfall Isn’t As Massive As You Think
It looks like we're readying ourselves for another weather event of some sort Friday and Saturday in Rockford.
Before that happens did you know for all the snow and cold weather The Forest City has received, Winnebago County isn't even in the Top 5 when it comes to biggest all-time snowfalls in Illinois?
Adams County 02/28/1900, 24.0"
DuPage County, 02/02/2011, 23.0"
Lake County, 02/02/2011, 22.8"
Cook County, 01/13/1979, 22.2"
McHenry County, 02/02/2011, 21.1"
The biggest snowfall in Winnebago was 17 inches on November 21, 2015, which in its own right is a huge pile of snow, but nowhere near the top 5.
While the rest of the state was getting dumped on February 2, 2011, Winnebago County and Rockford, in particular, only got 15.1 inches snow. Compared to what dropped in Lake, McHenry, and DuPage County on the exact same day, it looks like we got off easy.
Of course, the three to six inches of snow we're expected to get this Friday into Saturday will probably turn into the biggest snowfall we've ever got in Winnebago County and it's all because I'm sharing this information with you.
For the first time in weather history instead of blaming meteorologists, you can blame me. It's all my fault.
