***UPDATE***

The Mercer Island School District got schooled and has reinstated tag.

It must hurt to be "it." Although, as a child, when I played the game 'tag', I don't ever remember having my feelings hurt because I was. I think all of us know how the game is played and that being "it" is part of the game ; that's why it's called a game and not emotional and physical abuse.

A school district in Washington state doesn't see it that way.  The Mercer Island School District had banned the game tag saying, "[W]hile at play, especially during recess and unstructured time, students are expected to keep their hands to themselves. The rationale behind this is to ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students."

This is so ridiculous and hundreds of parents agree with me. One parent even created a Facebook page to spread awareness about the ban. One of the biggest concerns, aside from child obesity is that the parents were never consulted about it first.

What do you think? Has the school gone overboard on this?
