We are reaching the weekend where some say they'll be "drinking like they're an Irishman".

For some, that means green beer, for others Irish whiskey. Just make sure both are done responsibly.

For those who fall to the ladder, know that science is saying that will increase your time on this planet.

One neurologist at the University of Califonia, Claudia Kawas, along with her team have been busy studying the lifestyle habits of those who live into their 90s.

They've been conducting this study with this age group for 15+ years and they've found that the ones who drank two units of alcohol daily were not prone to premature death.

Kawas said:

I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity, "

It is also being reported that whiskey contains a powerful antioxidant, ellagic acid, that can get rid of cancerous free radicals that are in the body. Whiskey is said to contain more of this than that of red wine.

It can help with heart health because if consumed moderately may reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke by up to 50 percent. The same can be said for reducing the risk of suffering from dementia.

Like everything alcohol related, moderation and responsibility are a must!
