Even airlines where you used to think the getting was good.
The problem is that the getting was too good. It was one of those deals where you were constantly surprised, almost like you were getting away with something.
You know what I'm talking about: that feeling that eventually, they, no matter who they are, company, person, or entity, will catch on and finally start charging the correct amount.

Well, that's what's happening now for Southwest Airlines.
Southwest is known for this great deal: "Bags Fly Free."
In 2025, those bags will no longer be flying for free. After 50 years of offering a deal that has become so synonymous with the brand it's trademarked, "Bags Fly Free" is dead.

NBC 5 in Chicago says some Southwest Airlines customers may be subject to bag fees, depending on Rapid Rewards status. Others will be charged for their first and second bags later this year.
If you're wondering when these changes go into effect, flights booked on or after May 28, 2025 will feature the new bag charge.
Southwest did not disclose the amount of bag fees but did share that it will begin selling a new "basic fare" package on the airline, which essentially doubles as an economy flight. This package will remove preferred assigned seating and extra legroom options.

All these years I thought I was getting away with something using Southwest when I wanted to save a few bucks.
Looks like they finally caught on. 2025 strikes again.
