It's been over six months since the tragic death of Rockford Police Officer Jaimie Cox. The Rockford community may still be reeling from the loss, but I can only imagine the pain Officer Cox's family is still living through on a daily basis. His wife and family are often in my thoughts and prayers, and I know many other Rockfordians are continuously doing the same.

Illinois State Representative John Cabello spent some time with Officer Cox's family this week while they were in Springfield to witness Jaimie's name being added  to the Illinois police memorial. Cabello shared these words on his Facebook page Wednesday, and I think they perfectly sum up what so many of us wish we could express personally to Officer Cox's family.

I have been around members of Officer Cox's family a few times since he was killed, and although their grief is still very evident on their faces, they are doing an extraordinary job of honoring Jaimie and his ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of Rockford.

I believe I can speak on behalf of so many other Rockfordians when I say to the family of Officer Cox, you are not alone. If you need anything from any of us, please don't hesitate to ask. I pray you find peace, and I am extremely grateful for Officer Cox, and all of his brothers and sisters in blue.

Here's some video State Representative Cabello shared from Thursday's Illinois Police Officer Memorial ceremony in Springfield. Take a few minutes to watch it; you will be moved.
