Meteor Shower

Get ready for a lunar showstopper this November, as the Beaver Supermoon lights up the skies over Illinois like never before.

The first day of winter, also known as the Winter Solstice, happens tomorrow, December 21st, at 3:48pm, local time, and if the conditions are right, it might be worth taking a look towards the heavens for a little pre-Christmas meteor show.

The Geminids are usually one of the best meteor showers of the year, capable of producing 150 or more meteors per hour at a dark site. Another really cool aspect is that the meteors are often bright and colorful.

A meteor shower called alpha Monocerotid) might cause an "outburst" which may be visible should the clouds take a break.

If you missed it last year, and there's a very good chance you did, the Geminid Meteor Shower is happening this week.
