I find it hard to compete when one of the biggest cities in the US is right down the road.

However, when it comes to Christmas, I kind of think Rockford or at the very least the northern Illinois area does a pretty good job of getting festive.

First, Travel Pulse:

The famous Christkindlmarket Chicago (one of the country's best authentic Christmas markets) now has a second location in Wrigleyville, and that's just the start of the fun to be had at Christmastime in the Windy City. Friday nights will feature caroling at the Cloud Gate (also known as "The Bean") and, once again, there will be ice skating at Millenium Park. This is to say nothing of the scores of excellent light displays around town, with the Chicago Botanic Garden and Lincoln Park Zoo hosting two of the best displays.

We're not sure if they're really trying when you just pick the biggest city in the state and say they are the "most Christmassy place" in Illinois.

If you don't believe it, the choice for most Christmassy place in Indiana is Santa Claus. A little too on the nose, don't you think?

If you want the real answer for most Christmassy place in Illinois, it's Rockford or at least the Rockford area. With Stroll on State kicking off the season that's just the tip of the proverbial Christmas iceberg. If you were to plan out the holidays there is something Christmas or just holiday-related every weekend until Christmas.
