The Presidential Alert You’ll Get Today
Let me start by saying...(AHS SPOILER ALERT) this is exactly how the newest season of American Horror Story starts. It also seemed so realistic it confirmed my biggest fear of the world suddenly ending. Well don't be scared when something very similar to this happens.
Phones across the country will buzz sometime before 1:20 PM on Wednesday, October 3rd. Will it be Aaron Samuels telling us it's October 3rd? Unfortunately not. This will be the first time federal officials will conduct the first-ever test of the country's emergency communications system with a presidential alert.
One, this is slightly terrifying. Two, if people aren't aware it's a test, I predict people are going freak out. But hey, I didn't plan this whole test launch. According to state officials,
The alert will be a joint test of the Wireless Emergency Alert system and the Emergency Alert System, and commence at 1:18 p.m. The countrywide test, a joint effort of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission, will use the same tone and vibration as tornado warning and AMBER Alert warnings.
FEMA says users cannot opt out of receiving these alerts. You can find more info here.
