The ‘Prettiest Small Town In Illinois’ Isn’t Too Far From Rockford
Even when seemingly everything is closed, it's worth it just to make the drive from Rockford.
Because not only is Galena, Illinois, one of the most beautiful places on Earth, the cruise up from Rockford is also one of the most scenic.
This Illinois town was originally named for the mineral that was mined in the area but is now a beautiful getaway for those looking to step back in time.
You don't even need to get out of your car to make a Galena trip worthwhile.
Matter of fact, that's partially why I found this story kind of interesting. My wife and I, on the neverending quest to find something to do during quarantine, actually discussed just driving to Galena for no real reason whatsoever.
These past few months have made me, and I guess the rest of us, reconsider what qualifies as "something to do."
If you would've asked me at the beginning of 2020 if I'd consider driving to Galena, roughly an hour or so from where we live, for no reason at all other than just to go do something, I'd have thought you were crazy, but here we are.
With the state getting ready to ease on restrictions June 1, and restaurants opening for outdoor dining this Friday, are you ready?
Will you forget what we've considered "fun" these past few months or are you going to ease into our "new normal?
