The lifestyle website CoolMaterial.com posted a list of their picks for the 50 things every guy should own and we've got the top ten.

Don't worry, I'll provide you the link for the rest because if you have a man in your life, you understand how important it is for them to have all the things they need to be a happy, functioning, contributor to society. Plus it's always nice to have a man around who's prepared for any and everything.

And if you're like me and have a teenage son who's on the cusp of becoming an adult (I can't believe my son is going to be 18 in four months), this is a great list to use a reference when buying gifts or for when you finally send them off into the world on their own.

Here are the top ten:

1. A suit that actually fits. My husband and I bought Tanner his first suit when he joined DECA his sophmore year and he's needed one every single year after because he's growing so quickly.

2. One great coffee table book. Anything sports and music related would be a great choice.

3. A decent bottle opener. Not one of those cheesy ones you get from a bar.

4. A good pair of headphones. Both my husband and son are obsessed with their headphones; I shudder at the amount they spend but they also have them plugged in their ears at least 2 hours per day between the gym and web surfing. And why should they be good? So you aren't constantly buying new ones because they starting shorting out thanks to you being sweaty.

5. A bag you can use for anything. For Christmas last year, we bought my son a very nice Swiss Army bag that he can use when he travels and heads off to college. He uses it for everything. He'll be taking it on his first international excursion this Thursday.

6. A decent watch. You're probably asking yourself, "why a watch? Don't most people use their phone to tell time?" Watches are meant to a be a symbol of something meaningful to you. It can be vintage, or new; what's important is that it has meaning to you. My husband wears a watch that I bought him for Christmas three years ago and when he looks at it, it reminds him of our first Christmas apart after I moved to Wisconsin.

7. A sharp knife for the kitchen.  And not one from the set you got from your wedding.

8. A good tie. In addition to that, know how to tie it. I'll admit, I have no idea how to tie one.

9. A pen that didn't come in a pack of five.  So, basically, you're allowed to have all those free pens that you pick up from the dentist, job fairs and expos. Or, something fancy like a Montblanc.

10. A toolbox with at least two screwdrivers, a hammer, a tape measure, and pliers.

With Father's Day coming up and graduations, make sure to check out the rest of the list for some great gift ideas if you're stumped. The rest of the top 50 included things like a camera , a nice TV,  a good bottle of whiskey, a Zippo, a comfortable pair of slippers , a pocket knife,  a good grill,  one REAL piece of art and a passport.
