This Is The Absolute Cheapest City in Illinois To Buy A House
Looking to own a home and save a few bucks? You're in luck because there happens to be a city in Illinois where owning a home will save you money.
Here's a hint, it's in a big college town and no I don't mean Champaign or Urbana or Bloomington or Normal.
I'm also not talking about DeKalb or Carbondale either.
According to Wall St. 24/7's new study on The Cheapest City To Buy a Home in Your State, Macomb is your spot.
If you're like "Macomb? Where is that?" Let me tell you first off, it's the home of Western Illinois University and second, it's the best place to buy a home in the entire state.
The median list price for a home in Macomb is $69,000 which is staggeringly low considering the average for the state is $310,000.
That said, the homes are smaller in Macomb compared to the rest of Illinois. The average for Macomb is 1,320 square feet with the rest of the state at 1,708 square feet.
Even though housing is cheaper in Macomb there has been quite an increase in list price the last year going up nearly 25% while Illinois is up about 8%.
