One of the best, if not the best fireworks display in Northern Illinois is just a few minutes outside of Rockford.

Not entirely sure how or why but most people believe, Kirkland has the best fireworks in the area.

A recent Facebook question asking which town or city in Northern Illinois has the best fireworks, a large number of comments mentioned Kirkland as the best of the bunch.

Kirkland, population 1,744, is pretty humble regarding their fabulous fireworks display.

Matter of fact, the Kirkland fireworks is so low key, their is no mention of it on the DeKalb County website.

The 69th Annual 4th of July Celebration consists of "live music, a beer tent, bingo, a queen contest, parade, car show, tractor show, bags tournament" and even a ventriloquist before any mention of fireworks according to DeKalb County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

However, the Village of Kirkland website does tout a massive fireworks display, referring to the event as the "Biggest in Northern Illinois!"

How does this happen? How does a town of less than 1,800 people pull of the biggest fireworks display in Illinois? Does Kirkland have the best fireworks? If not, then who does?
