Get your green on and prep your liver, St. Patrick's Day is just a few weeks away. Here are the three reasons you want to celebrate in Illinois this year.

While it's hard to predict what the weather will be on March 15, it's not hard to predict where you'll have the most fun celebrating, that's right here in Illinois.

Unless you want to head all the way to Massachusetts, Illinois is the place to be. In fact, it's the second best state to celebrate St. Patrick's Day according to a new study from Chummy Tees.

The study ranked all 50 states based on the quantity and affordability of each state's St. Patrick's Day events paired with how popular the holiday is in each state.

The total possible score for each state was 100, Massachusetts took the top spot with 75.27 points, but Illinois was right behind with 73.89.

So you've decided Illinois is the place to be this St. Patrick's Day, but where exactly should you celebrate? Basically you have three options: Chicago, the burbs or Rockford.

Honestly, Rockford might take the cake here! Green river, big parade and less traffic?

Top St. Patrick's Day Events in Illinois

Chicago:

  • 2024 Chicago St. Patrick's Day parade, March 16th at 12:15pm, Chicago river will be dyed after the parade.
  • South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 17th at noon.

Suburbs:

  • St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 9, Naperville, 10am
  • Shamrockin' Along the Fox River 8K run, March 9, St. Charles, 10am
  • St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 16, Palatine, 11am

Rockford:

  • St. Patrick's Parade & PaddyFest, March 16th at 3pm. The Rock River will be dyed green, 'Operation Emerald Water;' PaddyFest at Embassy Suites starts ar 4pm, $10/adult, kids 12 and under free.
