TERROR: What Scares The S@#! Out Of The People Of Illinois Most
If you thought Illinois residents were most afraid of snakes, heights, or even clowns, guess again. A recent survey reveals the number one fear in the state, and it's definitely not what you'd expect!
What Are You Most Afraid Of? Spoiler Alert: It's Not Snakes or Heights
So, there I was, completely convinced that my deepest fears—snakes slithering toward me with their judgmental eyes and heights that seem determined to make me dizzy—were universal. Turns out, nope. A recent survey hit me with the curveball of all curveballs, and now I'm questioning everything I thought I knew about fear. Like, sure, I'll gladly throw myself into a pit of scary movies with serial killers or creepy haunted houses (just kidding, I'd never). But snakes? Heights? They’re still the stars of my personal horror show.
For me, snakes top the list. I mean, I still have nightmares about the time I had to let a giant python wrap itself around me. Thanks to losing a bet, I learned firsthand that no amount of screaming will actually make a snake reconsider its life choices. Not to mention, there might still be one of those slithering demons loose in Rockford. So, you know, sleep tight!
And don’t get me started on heights. Throw me on a roller coaster, and I’ll politely pretend to pass out to avoid the whole experience. But somehow, none of this made the top fear in Illinois.
America's Top Fears: Wait, What?
According to Google searches, here are the top 5 things Americans fear most:
5. Spiders and Nature (because bugs and fresh air, am I right?)
4. Intimacy (we love our personal space, okay?)
3. Water (drink it, sure, but swim in it? Nope.)
2. Blood (are you getting queasy thinking about that word?)

And what’s the biggest fear in Illinois? Drumroll, please...
Blood
Yeah, you heard me right. Out of all the terrifying things in the world, it’s blood that gives Illinois residents the heebie-jeebies. Not, you know, plummeting from the Sears Tower or tripping over a snake in a cornfield.
