Uncle Nick’s in downtown Rockford has long been a famous late-night food destination for gyros and anyone with the munchies. Now they're serving tacos?! Say less.

I've been there... stumbling over to Uncle Nick's plenty of times after leaving The Rue when I was in my early 20s.  Now, I go every few weekends after a few glasses of wine and many games of pool at Savoy's Lounge.

Recently, I noticed something new on the menu—tacos.  Have you tried them?

At first, I was skeptical.  Like, Uncle Nick’s is the place for gyros, so how could I betray that?  But curiosity got the best of me, so I tried the steak and al pastor tacos.

Here’s my honest review, both sober and after a few drinks.

Are Tacos At Uncle Nick's in Rockford Really That Good?

I usually inhale anything from Uncle Nick's within minutes, and these tacos are no different.  They're so damn good!  Photos really don't do it justice.

The tortillas are always intact after every bite, the meat is always juicy, and the sauce... oh, the sauce.  Every time I've asked for green sauce, they load it upppp in my bag.  If you want an extra kick, get the red sauce.

I've had my fair share of tacos around Rockford from Olivo Taco, San Jose, Cantina Taco, Tortilla Express... but if you're sleeping on these tacos from Uncle Nick's, you're missing out.  I'd give them an 8.7/10.  Always room to improve!

After sharing the tacos to Facebook, I realized not a lot of people knew they had tacos on the menu.  Thank me later!

If you're wanting dessert afterwards, get the cheesecake or tres leches.  Just sayin'.
