For sale on eBay, a used vintage Rockford postcard.

The Old Saying

I am sure you have heard the old saying, "One person's trash is another person's treasure." I think those words could not be more true in this day and age.

If you spend any time going to flea markets, thrift stores, and garage sales, you witness it first hand. There are also internet sites like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist.

If a person thinks they can get any cash from an item they do not want anymore, they will definitely try to sell it. Most of the time, depending on the price, someone will probably end up buying it.

Surfing The Net

I enjoy cruising the internet for unique items people are trying to sell and make a couple of bucks on. I can usually find some interesting stuff.

Just when I think that it is totally weird that someone is trying to get rid of something strange, I discover a bunch more of the same. In some cases, even crazier.

Of course, at the end of the day, there is a buyer.

Look What I Found

This item itself is not really strange. It is not even weird that the owner would try to sell it. The unique part is the condition it is being sold in.

Today, I found this product posted on eBay. Here it is

"Postcard Post Card Rockford Illinois Ill Il Main Street" posted by deg123 on eBay. Check it out, HERE.

Front Of Postcard

As you can see, from the front it looks like a cool collectible item.

Back Of Postcard

This is where it gets a little strange. This postcard is used. There is a message written on it. Plus, it has already been sent. Why would anyone get rid of a personal item like this and who is going to buy it?

Look At The Message

Did you read the note written on the back of the postcard? There are a couple of things I noticed.

  • It was sent from Rockford to Oregon, Illinois which seemed like a waste because they are very close but it is from 1910, so it was probably the best form of communication back in those days.
  • There was no address, just the name and town. I am sure it was a very small community and the postman knew everyone.
  • The sender did not put a stamp on it, so the person receiving the mail had to pay for it. Looks like it only cost a penny, so I wonder why they did not include the postage.

Not The Only One

By the way, this is not the only postcard or used postcard listed on eBay. There are hundreds of them. Check it out, HERE. Maybe, you can start your own collection.

How Much

This used vintage Rockford, Illinois postcard will set up back $6.50. That seems a little pricey for me. Maybe, if it was of Symbol I would be willing to pay that but this is just a shot of Main Street.

Compare Shopping

To put it in perspective, you can purchase brand new Rockford postcards from the RACVB for 50 cents each, HERE. I think think the pictures are much better too.
