A New Year means a chance to start over and take up a new hobby, maybe this year you want to learn a new language, but you aren't sure where to start? Why not start with the most popular language to learn in Illinois.

When I look back to my childhood there are so many things I'm glad I had the chance to learn and try and two of them really stand out, playing the piano and learning Spanish.

At the time, I hated playing the piano. I didn't like to practice, I wasn't as good as my brother was and my lessons were after school when I'd rather be playing basketball in the driveway.

However, decades later I'm so glad I learned how to play! Despite the fact that I can only play one song.. 'Bells Are Ringing,' I think it helped my brain learn to love music. Which you can imagine is important as a radio personality.

I also spent six years learning Spanish from 7th grade thru my senior year of high school.

That stuck with me a bit more and I believe I could still have a conversation with a Native Spanish speaker and hold my own.

You may have guessed Spanish is the most popular language to learn this year, that's not too much of a surprise.

But a recent study from Writing Tips shares that Japanese comes in second place and Korean in third, which both truly surprised me!

Korean pop music has a lot to do with this trend!

Do you know a language other than English?
