I went through fertility for three years before I had Liam. I knew no one going through it. Thus, I had no one that understood my depression, the pain, and the treatments. When I came across an article about the realities of fertility, I felt I should share it, hoping I could help someone going through it.

First of all, there's a lot of work in getting started. Between blood tests, doctor visits, endless exams, and medication, I didn't think the fun of trying would ever happen! I believe I went through months of preparation.

By the way, if you have a fear of needles, you better get over it! I remember Jon injecting me in the stomach. There's no way I was ever going to do that to myself! It's one of those things, if you can take a needle to the stomach, you can do anything!

Fertility treatments are not cheap. Hopefully you're lucky, and your insurance can help. But if not, you could be paying $10,000 -12,000 a year for medications and treatments, plus if you are freezing eggs, that could run you an additional $800 per year.

Finally, there's no guarantee. Sadly, after everything you go through, you may not have a baby at the end. After three years for me, I had a feeling a baby just wasn't in our life plan, so I basically gave up. I had my my last treatment, and unlike other's, I just forgot about it. I didn't do a pregnancy test, I didn't have the heart to take my temperature, to get my hopes up again. It was weird, because going through fertility for as long as I did, people would tell me all the time "the moment you don't try it'll happen," and when I heard that, I would always roll my eyes and not believe it, because honestly, how can something you want so bad, be that easy?

...And it was. I got pregnant, the one month I didn't stress over it, didn't really try, didn't believe I would ever get pregnant!

So, I guess what I was told was correct after all.
