5 Unluckiest Places to Be in Rockford on Friday The 13th
January 13 falls on a Friday this week. If you're superstitious, you should probably stay away from these five places until at least Saturday.
Hope and Anchor Pub
Yeah, it's not technically in Rockford, but it's still worth noting due to its alleged haunted past. According to HauntedRockford.com, the bar has been home to spirits besides those of the alcohol variety. Employees have reportedly heard ghostly sounds coming from different areas of the building. Think you'd be lucky enough to spot a ghost? Hope and Anchor will be the starting point for a haunted pubs tour on Jan. 13.
Rockford Rivets Stadium
The Rockford Rivets baseball season doesn't start until May 30. The team's first home game isn't until June 1. The forecast is calling for only a high of 21 degrees on Friday. If you find yourself in an empty baseball stadium four months before the start of the season on a freezing cold day, consider yourself to be having a rather unlucky Friday the 13th.
Winnebago County Animal Services
This is only on the list for those of you who have a fear of black cats. Winnebago County Animal Services currently has at least 10 black cats available for adoption at its shelter. If you believe the tale that black cats bring bad luck, then maybe a shelter visit shouldn't be on your schedule on Friday the 13th. You should still make a point to check out WCAS's website to see if there is a dog or cat you could provide a forever home.
State and Alpine at 5 p.m.
One of Rockford's busiest intersections is the absolute worst no matter what time you roll through it. If you're headed that way at 5 p.m., be prepared to wait through a couple cycles of the traffic light before you make it through the intersection. You know you won't be lucky enough to get a green light on Friday the 13th. Instead, you'll probably be stuck there, staring at that creepy cemetery next to Rock City Tattoo.
IceHogs Fan 1,501 at the BMO Harris Bank Center
The Rockford IceHogs play the San Diego Gulls on Friday the 13th. You'll want to get to the game early. The first 1,500 lucky fans in attendance get a free stocking cap. Get there late and you're out of luck. Another reason to show up before the puck drops is to get an up close peek at the Gulls' sweaters. San Diego has one of the least intimidating logos in all of sports. It's basically a seagull confusingly looking at a hockey stick. It will distract you from the guys on the ice wearing goalie masks on Friday the 13th.
