An Albuquerque firefighter has been placed on administrative leave after hanging up on a caller who was trying to save her dying friend.

I can only imagine how stressful it must be to work in an 911 dispatch office; you're constantly interacting with citizens of your community who are caught up in life or death circumstances; some which can be completely out of control. Which is why it's your job to be in control so you can best handle each circumstance.

Matthew Sanchez was not in control the day a teenager called emergency services to report that her friend, 17-year old Jaydon Chavez-Silver, had been shot at a house party.  Chavez-Silver had only been at the house party for five minutes when someone started shooting at the house. During the 911 call, frantic attempts to save his life can be heard in the background.

The dispatcher who took the call later hung up on the caller because she used the "f" word; Chavez-Silver later died at the hospital from his injuries and no arrests have been made.

As someone who's worked in a call center, I can understand how someone swearing at you can be frustrating and our initial thought is that "I don't deserve this" and we hang up on them to teach them some kind of lesson, but I have a feeling that this is a lesson that dispatcher Sanchez will never forget.

Do you think that Sanchez should get to keep his job after this?
