It's been a rough year, so when a restaurant screws up an order you just kind of have to take it in stride.

Well, as you know, I'm a pretty clean eater these days however I do make exceptions for some of my favorite things, pizza, popcorn, and Chicken George.

If you raised an eyebrow when you saw "Chicken George," trust me, it's something you need to try. I've shared the joys of Chicken George for years so it shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Anyway, the only restaurant I know that serves the style of Chicken George I go in on is the Candlelight Inn with locations in Rock Falls and Sterling. Traveling that far for chicken isn't always an option for a family that lives in the Rockford area. However, Palmyra Pub & Eatery in Dixon was purchased a couple of years ago by the family that owns the Candlelight Inn and they immediately added Chicken George to the menu. Since then, my family and I have been picking up Chicken George at Palmyra Pub & Eatery every couple of months.

A few weeks ago, we ordered Chicken George from Palmyra Pub & Eatery and I traveled to go pick it up.  I didn't check the bag because they've never messed up an order before.

45 minutes later, after arriving home, I realized they left a few things out. I was disappointed, primarily because I knew there was zero chance I was getting back in the car to pick up the missing stuff. So I called. Believe me, it's something I didn't want to do but did out of frustration.

After talking to a staff member and explaining the situation, I was transferred to the manager. Again, I shared the problem, mentioned how far away I was from their restaurant and was told they would send me a gift certificate to cover the entirety of the meal. I was certainly surprised but thought I would probably never receive the gift certificate in the mail. I mean, it's 2020 after all.

Fast forward a few days and lo and behold, I did receive a gift certificate. In a year where little has gone right, where restaurants are closing left and right, businesses continue to take care of their most dedicated customers. Palmyra Pub & Eatery is one of those businesses and because of their kindness and generosity, it completely restored my faith in humanity.

Tell you what, I'm going to pay it forward too. Because I believe everyone everywhere should at least try an order of Chicken George at least once in their life, send me an email to sweet.lenny@townsquaremedia.com, 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, November 18. I'll pick one person at random and send the winner the same gift certificate, worth $50, Palmyra Pub & Eatery sent to me.

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone for sending in an email in order to win the gift certificate.  I threw all your names in a random name contest picker.

That Place On Palmyra is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 628 Palmyra Road in Dixon.
