Abandoned Illinois Neighborhood Looks Like A Scene From The Walking Dead

If you enjoy eerie abandoned places you will love this visual tour of what used to be a neighborhood in Illinois.

The neighborhood is (was?) located in Bensonville but there is debate about it being re-zoned to Wood Dale, Illinois.

There are theories as to why these homes were deserted.

When you use a black and white filtered photo of these houses it added more mystery as to what happened to drive this residents away, doesn't it?

The home in the photo below appears to have its garage door the completely wrong way. How did it get like that?

Their are theories as to the story behind these abandoned home and they make sense.

The location of this neighborhood is very close to O'Hare International Airport. One theory is that perhaps the houses have been used by a fire department for training exercises.

But, as you will notice in the next photo, some of the homes were tagged with graffiti.

There is obviously fire damage to these homes but, after extensive searching, there is no indication these homes were abandoned after an accidental fire.

One member of a private group on Facebook believes these homes were in fact used by fire and police training.

But, again, there is no public information confirming that theory.

There are a few published articles related to deserted neighborhoods in this area dating back to the early 2000s.

Some reported houses being bought and demolished to make room for an O'Hare expansion. However, these photos were taken recently.

Some of these homes appear to be relatively new or at least very well maintained, pre-abandonment.

Another theory relates to the O'Hare expansion idea.

It could be possible that new industrial or warehouse-type buildings will soon be developed in that area.

Whatever the story behind these deserted dilapidated homes, vandals definitely made their way through some of these homes. There's also a video of the interior of one of the homes with indications of the home being occupied until 2021.
