Some trains to and from Chicago have been canceled due to the absolutely frigid wind chills, which are expected to drop to as low as -15 to 25 below zero.

Lines at a Standstill: The Cancellations Mount

The canceled trains will affect five different lines, including the Pacific Northwest, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

The cancellations will continue through Wednesday, according to Amtrak.

If you travel to the northwest using Amtrak from Chicago, with stops including Spokane and Portland, all services to those locations have stopped.

Midwest Meltdown: Key Routes Disrupted

Other stops with probably the most import are between Chicago and some midwest cities and states.

The Hiawatha line between Chicago and Milwaukee and the Wolverine between Chicago and Pontica have been halted.

The Borealis Service, which runs between Chicago and the Twin Cities, and the Sandburg trains between the Windy City and Quincy are also included.

On the Road Again: Buses to the Rescue

Buses have been offered as alternative modes of transportation.
