IHSA Spring Tournaments Canceled But Games Could Still Happen
Some games could still be played even though IHSA canceled the spring sports tournaments.
My heart is breaking for the "Class of 2020." I understand that there's a lot of terrible things going on in the world right now. In the grand scheme of things, this might not be at the top of the list, but it means a lot to those students.
A couple of days ago, I was talking to one of my longtime friends. We were discussing how much fun we had in high school. Especially, our senior year. We couldn't even imagine going through this.
All these once in a lifetime special events are disappearing. No, hanging out with your friends, prom, sports, senior ditch day, yearbooks, graduation, time with your favorite teachers, saying good bye, and so much more
This is hitting me really hard because my daughter is in the "Class of 2020." I'm so sad for her and her friends. They've worked so hard to get to this point. Her boyfriend plays baseball. He won't get that last season.
I keep thinking of all those athletes, If I didn't have my final year of high school football, I would've been crushed.
I give them all credit. They are taking it well, like mature adults. They understand there's nothing they can do. It's out of their hands.
It was expected but it's now official.

"The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors met for their April meeting via a video conference call on Tuesday, April 21, where the Board of Directors announced its decision to cancel all IHSA spring state tournaments."
There is a little bit of hope. The IHSA has left a door open if the state does open back up and it's safe for everyone involved. There could be some games played. I know it's not the same, but it would be better than nothing. My hope is that could happen.
To their credit, the Rockford School District at this point hasn't canceled prom or graduation. I pray those can be possible for the kids too.
