The pit of an avocado is quickly thrown away every time we cut one open. Time to reconsider because it's loaded with tons of good stuff.

So what exactly is going on inside that brown, nut-like pit? Take a look at this.

The avocado pit is filled with:

  • Antioxidants
  • Vitamin E
  • Fiber
  • Monosaturated fats

From an article I read at kitchn.com:

According to Eat Clean, these nutrient-dense pits may also help protect skin from sun damage, support healthy hair and nails, and boost gut health by reducing inflammation and the amount of 'bad' bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract.

So now the BIG QUESTION... how do you eat the avocado pit? You don't just pop it in your mouth and chew.

You'll need a high-powered blender. Chuck it in with the rest of your smoothie ingredients. While I haven't tried this myself yet, I hear it's very bitter tasting so mixing it with a green smoothie is recommended.
