Illinois’ Best Airport: O’Hare, Midway, or Rockford—Where Do Locals Like to Fly From?
I’ve flown from my fair share of airports, but when it comes to choosing where I want to catch a flight out of Illinois, there are two clear winners for me.
Living in Rockford my entire life, the Rockford Airport has been so convenient to fly out of. The only inconvenience is the fly times- there are only certain days you can depart and return, which typically conflict with my travel schedule. Other than that, I love the Rockford Airport!
It's small and surprisingly stress-free. I love that it’s easy to navigate, and the best part? You’re not fighting a crowd every time you turn a corner.
Oh, and O'Hare? Sure, it can be chaotic and the crowds can make you want to pull your hair out. But, if you plan ahead and get there early enough... TSA isn’t nearly as bad as people make it seem.

It's a massive airport and has literally everything you need. You can get to almost anywhere you need to go, and it’s still my top choice for long flights; American, United, Virgin America, and Alaska airlines are my favorite.
What about Midway? Not flying outta there, ever—unless it’s an absolute emergency. I’ll take pretty much anything over Midway. If you know, you know.

But what do locals think? The feedback was clear: most people love Rockford’s convenience, while O'Hare comes out on top, overall. As for Midway? Let’s just say, the consensus was, "Only if I absolutely have to!"
Midway is staying off my radar unless there's no other choice. Period.
