Byron To Get New $1M Riverfront Park
A huge grant from the state of Illinois is aiding the Byron area's plans to build a new $1 million riverfront park.
Called the Donald B. Johnson Riverfront Park, it's nestled on 10 acres of land near River Drive in Byron.
Plans for the Park include a shelter, a playground, both asphalt and natural surface trails, a river overlook, fishing area, and preservation of green space.
Due to that area being a floodway, the new park will not have any athletic fields or host sporting events according to saukvalley.com.
The grant will cover $400,000 of the park project with the total cost expected to be $923,000.
Construction on the new park will begin in spring 2021 with tree removal already underway.
