Going to zoos is something my family loves to do. My girls have definitely inherited their mom's love of all things animal, and it doesn't matter how many times we've gone to a zoo, they simply LOVE watching animals in person.

My daughters have a soft spot for all animals, but the one thing that really gets their hearts all a flutter are unicorns. If something has a unicorn on it, they have it. Sheets, shirts, pencils, wall art, stuffed animals, you name it, we've probably got it in our home if it has a unicorn on it. If they started selling unicorn toilet paper, my girls would beg to get that too. No joke.

My girls know that unicorns aren't "real", but when I tell them they can ride a "unicorn" this weekend at Summerfield Zoo, they will absolutely LOSE THEIR MINDS.

Advanced reservations are no longer needed to go to Summerfield Zoo in Belvidere, and tickets are available at the gate. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8 for kids on the weekends. (Friday through Sunday). The zoo hosts daily animal shows at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturdays, and at Noon and 2 p.m. on Sundays. They also offer private animal encounters with some of the zoo's most famous residents that are a must-do for any animal lover, so be sure to check those out too!
