According to prosecutors, he gained access to more than 1,200 SNAP Link cards between 2018 and 2023. His method? Simple. Very simple. But very illegal. He offered recipients cash or other items in exchange for access to their benefit cards.
Once he had control, he used the cards at authorized retail stores, pretending to be the rightful cardholder. He then purchased goods, resold most of them, and pocketed the profits. In total, federal officials say his actions led to $1,554,804 in fraudulent payouts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the agency that oversees SNAP.

Beyond prison time, he has also been ordered to repay every dollar.. more than $1.5M in restitution. The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to crack down on SNAP fraud, which not only violates the law but also undermines a critical safety net for those in need.
While the scheme ran for years, officials say it ultimately caught up with him, resulting in a significant prison sentence and a hefty financial penalty. For many, it's a reminder that programs mean to help vulnerable communities are closely monitored, and abusing them can come with serious consequences.
