What 3 words would you use to describe yourself? That's a hard question. We were asked this question in a church class this morning and it took me a while to figure it out.

Then I thought to myself, why is it so hard to come up with a few good words about myself?

Also, why is it so much easier to describe other people than it is myself?

I've known the people in my group for 3 weeks now and I had an easier time picking out words to describe them than I did for myself. I think it comes down to one thing. Self love. It's incredibly important. Yet I think many of us spend so much time immersed in family, work, social media, TV, celebrities, caring what other people think about us, etc. that we don't spend enough time loving ourselves.

The age old saying goes, you can't make someone else happy unless you're happy with yourself. It's so true. Why am I telling you all of this you ask? I recently saw a very inspirational video on UpWorthy's Facebook page of a father teaching his daughter to affirm herself. To lift herself up. To see the greatness she holds within her. If only we all had that kind of daily encouragement from the time we were little. Imagine how that kind of positivity and self love would have transformed us into more happy, loving, thriving, and contributing members of society.

If you haven't seen this video, it is a must watch. Even if you didn't have this in your life growing up, it's never too late to start a new tradition with your own kids, or to start loving yourself more. It's our responsibility to instill self love and good values in our children. And God knows Rockford needs more good people. Be the good. Be the change. Be the encouragement. We can do this Rockford. One person at a time. One child at a time. I have faith in us. God bless.
