For a few panicked moments this morning, I seriously thought Halloween 2020 had already been cancelled and it hit me way harder than it probably should.

I saw multiple people all sharing the same article on Facebook this morning. The headline read; "Spirit Halloween Announces Seasonal Stores Will NOT Be Opening This Year", and I cannot type out the first words that came out of my mouth after reading it.

The article features a "press release" from Spirit Halloween that said in part; "Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, and the lack of international commerce at this time, it is likely that our stores will not be opening for the 2020 season". The "press release" goes on to say that new items will be featured on their website, blah, blah, blah...you can read the whole thing here.

As any good sharer of the news should do, I immediately started researching the "facts" so I could pass them on to you. Turns out all I needed to do was scroll down a little farther in the article to find the only important thing I needed to know. The author of the article, Sam Santiago for trulydisturbing.com, issued an update that said;

UPDATE: Well, looks like we have been dooped! A reader let us in on this April fools joke gone viral. Just shows how much we pay attention to Social networks. Yet, it begs the question, will there be as many SPIRIT Halloween stores open this year?

Dirty, stinkin' pranksters. Didn't they know that April Fool's Day was also cancelled for 2020, because this year is the worst and our emotions can't take any more bad news...even if it is fake?!?
