Mr. Kyle Marcum, from Freeport High School in Freeport, Illinois. (Kyle is the one holding the cake).

Our new Teacher of the Week was nominated by one of his very grateful students, Mya Loan, she writes,

Mr. Marcum should be the Teacher of the Week because he makes the classroom environment enjoyable for all students. No matter what a student has going on in their life Mr. Marcum always tries his best to distract the student and make their day a little better from the time they enter the building to the time they leave the building. All students in the building who know Mr. Marcum would call him the teddy bear of the school, he makes great relationships with his coworkers and students, makes the learning experience better and more understandable for all, and tries to be a great listener for those that don't have one. Within the years of knowing Mr. Marcum a lot of students have expressed their gratitude and how much they have learned from him and his psychology class, changing the way they think and act.

In my brief conversation with Kyle, we spoke about how much he loves having the opportunity to provide some social and emotional learning for so many young people. I got the strong impression that he is very much the kind of human who finds the little joys that exist all around us.

No matter the circumstances, finding something good in every experience, is the direction toward a peaceful life.

As Teacher of the Week, Mr. Marcum was surprised with a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes and money to spend at WM Day Spa Salon.
