The setting for your perfect weekend in Illinois' friendliest town could be more picturesque. You'll find a good time and a laid-back vibe on the scenic Fox River.

A slower pace, great places to sip and shop, outstanding food choices with gorgeous spaces to eat outside. A riverwalk after that meal sounds like a great idea. You'll need the calorie burn because you're doing dessert at an old-fashioned ice cream and candy shop.

Before reading a recent story from World Atlas, 11 of the Friendliest Towns in Illinois, I knew what town should be at the top of that list.

Geneva, Illinois is the Friendliest Town in Illinois

Before my wife and I were married, we took our first overnight trip to Geneva, Illinois and we have been back many times. So many things we've experienced during our trips to Geneva have been made great by the people we've encountered while in town.

So many parks and forest preserves, including the Fox River. A thriving downtown filled with locally-owned boutiques and shops.

The restaurant community couldn't be more vibrant. You will not run out of choices for a great meal or cocktails or wine.

We often stay at a perfect Illinois riverfront resort for a romantic getaway, The Herrington Inn and Spa.

If you decide to bring your bikes with you to Geneva, there is an extensive bike trail system including portions of the Fox River Trail and the Illinois Prairie Path.

Also on that World Atlas list of Illinois' friendliest towns is one of America's Coolest Small Towns to Visit.
