Get A Commemorative Brick From White Swan School

Demolition of White Swan Elementary School on Mill Road in Rockford started on Monday and appeared to be nearly finished when I drove past it early Thursday afternoon.

I tried to snap a pic of the rubble, but there were too many work trucks around to get a good shot. I never went to White Swan, but my kids would have, and it amazed me how fast decades of memories could be taken down.

If you or your children were proud White Swan students and would like to hold on to a small piece of the building's memory, you need to swing by the school's site on Mill Road now and pick up a brick.

The land once occupied by White Swan is now Rockford Park District property, and will soon become a space for children to play as the playground equipment was left standing.
