Ice Cream Melts On I-90 Near Rockford After Truck Fire

A truck fire causes ice cream to melt on I-90 near Rockford.

Do you ever use I-90 from Rockford to travel out of town? I used to all the time to go to concerts, sporting events, and other fun activities, Obviously, I have not done any of that in a long time. I still go into the suburbs quite a bit to see my mom. So, I consider myself sort of a tollway expert.

It does not matter how often you take that highway, you will know what I am talking about. If you are not familiar with I-90, I will try to paint the picture so you can get an understanding of what I am talking about.

The only way to describe I-90 is insane. It does not matter what time of the day or what day of the week, there is always traffic. You will never get the road to yourself. Of course, during peak travel times, it is just crushed with vehicles just trying to get somewhere but it is not going to happen anytime soon. Hopefully, the driver has a Snickers Bar.

I am never quite sure what the speed limit really is. Do not get me wrong, I see the signs posted but it does not seem to matter. If you are going to stay at the legal amount, I suggest getting over all the way in the right lane otherwise you are going to get run over. For example, if you were to say, go 80 MPH, cars would be passing you like you were standing still.

When bad weather hits, that just means your trip just gets a little more adventurous. They always have plenty of blows and salt trucks but many frequent I-90 users will treat it as any other day, so do not expect them to slow down.

On any given day you can see many different styles of vehicles on the road including cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, RVs, coach buses, sports cars, tour buses, motorcycles, construction equipment, military vehicles, police cars, and more. There are semi-truck that carry loads of food, beverages, supplies, and all your favorite things.

Nobody ever wants to see an accident. First of all, we do not want to see people get hurt. Also, it can cause major issues. I have witnessed cars backed up for miles and sitting for hours because of an incident like that.

Now, just think that this happens, the good and bad, each and every day on I-90 right by Rockford.

Over the past few months, I have been reading quite a few stories about semi-trucks that have dumped full loads of some interesting products all over the highway. Some of them include beer, juice, candy, fruit, and more. I have never heard of it happening with ice cream. Well, until now.

"Boone County fire crews were called to I-90 near North Park for a Breyer’s Ice Cream semi-truck on fire Tuesday night. Officials say no one was hurt. Although, the entire load of ice cream was destroyed."

I am so happy no one was hurt though losing that much ice cream is sad. There are not a lot of details about the accident so I do have a couple of questions.

What flavor or flavors was it?

Melted ice cream can get messy so who is in charge of cleaning it up? You can not just leave it there. It would get very smelly after a while.

Did any witness try to save any of the tasty treat?

I feel bad for the first responders because you know that ice cream got all over them.
