A spokesman for both chains says that these will still be available by request of diners.

In what can best be described as a surprise move, Applebee's and IHOP have announced they will no longer offer soft drinks on the children's menu at their restaurants.

According to CNN, "The move is the latest to trim back on soft drink consumption by children."

Interestingly enough, parents can still order the drinks for their kids if they wanted. It's just that they won't be visible to kids eyes. I don't really get it, they can take them off the menu but realistically they are still available.

As a parent, I wouldn't let my young child drink any kind of soft drink at a restaurant. It's either milk or water. The biggest surprise is that it was even an option to begin with.

Do you agree with the move by Applebee's and IHOP?
