I recently came across a newly updated list of the Best Barbecue Joints in America.

According to the list, the best place for ribs, brisket, and more is not in Chicago.

It was surprising to learn that Chicago, the country's third-largest city, doesn't have one of the top BBQ joints in the nation.

This is wildly unexpected, considering Smoque BBQ is highly acclaimed, attracting diners from all over.

However, this list from Taste of Home suggests otherwise.

Instead of Smoque, it recommends heading to Murphysboro, Illinois, for 17th Street Barbecue. This standout establishment has been featured on Food Network and Travel Channel and has received numerous awards and accolades.

One of its unique features is its signature 'magic dust' rub, which can be purchased in its shop.

While I have my own preferences for what makes a great BBQ joint, such as the BBQ sauce and the meat quality, Taste of Home emphasizes the rub's significance.

A visit to 17th Street Barbecue in Murphysboro seems necessary to truly understand what sets this place apart.

Have you been there? Is it worth the drive?
