Someone in downstate Illinois is waking up to a life-changing reality this week, whether they know it or not.

A winning Illinois lottery ticket worth a massive $5.6M was sold for Monday night's lottery drawing, and so far, the lucky player hasn't come forward to claim the prize.  The means there's a chance someone out there is going about their normal routine with a multi-million-dollar ticket sitting in their wallet, car, or kitchen junk drawer.

The jackpot-winning tickets was purchased at Royals Liquor, a store just southeast of St. Louis.  For the owners of the store, the news definitely didn't feel real at first.

“I got a call early this morning from a customer saying we sold the winning jackpot ticket,” said co-owner Bhavik Patel.

He said, “At first, I thought it was a prank—it can be hard to believe something like that over the phone.”

Then, they checked the Illinois lottery website.  The shock quite literally turned into excitement when the store was officially listed as the retailer that sold the winning ticket.

As a bonus, the store will receive 1% of the prize amount just for selling the ticket.  The winning numbers were 5, 18, 27, 33, 40, and 49.  This jackpot marks the second-largest lotto prize awarded in Illinois so far this year.  The winner has still yet to come forward, but they have plenty of time to claim the prize.  Do they even know they won?  Hopefully.  If not, that's crazy money not to claim.
