To avoid the long lines, the Secretary of State of Illinois suggests using their website.

It is time for all of us, to be honest. Nobody wants to go to the DMV, ever. You can never just run in and out. No matter when and where you go, it is always busy. The more that you need to take care of on a visit, the longer that trip is going to be. I think if we could all avoid it, then we definitely would.

I know it is hard to believe but it has even gotten worse thanks to the pandemic. All the locations were shut down for several weeks and they have been trying to play catch-up ever since. Even though the state has pushed back renewal dates, eventually they will need to be taken care of.

My driver's license expired last year. I put it off as long as possible. Finally, I had to suck it up and get it done. I needed a valid one. I went to several locations and the lines were just crazy. People were waiting all day. Somebody told me about the express location on Auburn Street and that was much better. It took me thirty minutes.

For my license plate sticker, I paid extra to avoid those long lines and all the people. At the time, it was a much better choice.

Now, I am finding out that some things you can do online and do not have to take up valuable personal time to try to accomplish.

According to wifr.com,

"Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White issued a reminder Friday urging the public to visit his office’s website to conduct transactions online when possible instead of visiting a Driver Services facility. Over the last nine months, more than 3.8 million transactions have been conducted online, an increase of 75 percent, White said. Those who conduct business online help shorten the line for those who must visit a facility.”

Here are some of the things you can do on the internet.

  • Purchase license plate stickers.

  • Renew driver’s licenses and ID cards.
