Illinois Tax Refunds Among The Highest in the Country

Hard to believe that we'd ever overpay taxes in the state of Illinois, but that's exactly what it means that we have such high refunds.

According to SmartAsset.com's recent research, taxpayers in Illinois enjoy refunds higher than three-quarters of the rest of the country. Illinois ranked #12 on the Average Tax Refunds in America list at $3,176.

There are a couple ways to look at this 5-year-average number; it's nice to have a big check in late winter/early spring for a fun purchase or bill pay down, but wouldn't be nicer to bring that money home every month? Maybe it's time for you to take a closer look at your withholdings.
