Do Illinois Teachers Really Spend This Much On School Supplies Every Year?
A new school year has arrived and teachers are getting ready to welcome their students back into the classroom. That comes at somewhat of a cost, unfortunately.
Ever since I can remember, my teachers were always spending money straight out of their own pockets to pay for cleaning supplies, classroom educational decorations, prizes for the students, and all the necessities they knew we needed. Like a great teacher, they always were overly prepared!
Well, don't you ever wonder how much teachers are actually spending to make their students happy? Because I know so many of my friends who teach in Illinois definitely don't get reimbursed for that money. If they do, it's little to NOTHING.
A new report came out recently that went in depth about how much a single teacher spends on classroom supplies this year and it's not a pretty sight to see.
To put it into perspective, in 2021 an average of $750 was spent by a single teacher just on school supplies alone. We wonder why the school districts won't help, huh?

I can't even imagine what 2022 looks like. Inflation has increased significantly, cost of goods is honestly outrageous, and teachers aren't making nearly as much to balance out the expenses they have within the classroom, let alone outside the classroom.
Are you ready for the answer?
Our analysis finds that teachers will spend an average of $820.14 out of pocket on school supplies during the 2022-2023 school year — the largest amount ever. - myelearningworld
$820. Ridiculous. GOODBYE! Next time your kids' teacher asks you to provide a box of Kleenex for the classroom, don't hesitate or think twice. It goes a long way! If you want to help out local teachers in the Rockford area, you can donate to the School Supply Drive through September 4th and nominate your favorite teachers for Teacher of the Week!
