Moms Know Best: Illinois Woman Wins $1M After Listening to Mom
An Illinois woman is celebrating a million dollar win after playing numbers that were passed down by someone pretty special in her family.
The southern Illinois resident became a millionaire after winning a $1M Lotto jackpot using a special set of numbers that her mom kept urging her to use. The numbers were 2, 14, 16, 31, 40, and 46. These numbers were based on meaningful family dates like birthdays and anniversaries, a tradition her mom had followed for years.
The winning numbers were drawn once before for an even bigger payout
Those same numbers actually had been drawn before for a $6.4M jackpot, but her mother missed out after forgetting to buy a ticket.
“The numbers were drawn exactly as she had them—she just never played the ticket,” the winner shared. “So my mother told me, ‘Play these numbers. One day, they’ll hit.’” [fox32chicago]
Fast forward to March 21st and that prediction finally came true, and this time they bought a ticket with those numbers.
After matching all six in the Lotto Million 2 game, the woman won $1M, plus an extra $5 from another line, bringing her total to $1,000,005. She chose to remain anonymous but said the moment she found out didn't feel real.
“My husband, daughter, and I were at home in disbelief,” she said. “I asked myself, ‘Is this really true?’” [fox32chicago]

Once it sank in, she quickly shared the exciting news with her family and started dreaming about what comes next.
