There was a very visible strange sight over New London, Missouri Monday afternoon. It appeared like it was a fire in the sky, but there's a more down-to-earth explanation about what many saw or at least I think so.

Jim Krigbaum shared this interesting video to the Things Happening in Hannibal, MO Facebook group.

Let me be clear that I do not 100% know what this object is, but I have a theory. Hear me out on this one.

What looks like something otherworldly is actually the sun reflecting off of the contrail of an airplane. When the water vapor caused by the combustion from the plane's engines meets the light of the sun, cool things happen.

One interesting aspect of this plane and its contrail is the light almost appears to be going straight up. That's likely just a matter of the angle that the plane was being viewed from the Hannibal, Missouri/Quincy, Illinois area instead of being a UFO or rocket. Let me say again that I cannot prove this is not something paranormal, but it sure looks like other plane contrails I've seen when they hit the sun.

It's worth noting that many saw this object for a long period of time which is odd.

It doesn't make this sight that many spotted over New London and other parts of the tri-state area today any less spectacular. It's just that the explanation is likely more conventional than some might have hoped. Maybe.
