Missouri has many places with well-known reputation for being playgrounds for the paranormal. However, the scariest place in the Show Me State is likely not a location you've been to or heard of. It has just been declared the scariest place in Missouri and that's likely not wrong.

If I say the words "Missouri" and "haunted', you likely think of famous places like the Lemp Mansion in St. Louis or the Screaming House in Union. This time neither of those were mentioned when a new list was compiled of the scariest places in each state.

What is the new scariest place in Missouri then?

According to Sherman's Travel, it's The Elms Hotel & Spa in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.

The history of The Elms Hotel and Spa is rich and twisted. It was destroyed twice by fire. Once in 1989 and another blaze burned it to the ground in 1910 according to the official website. No one perished in those fires, but the stories of their origin claim "spirits" were responsible.

Evil was common at The Elms Hotel and Spa especially during the Prohibition era when numerous gangsters are said to have run their operations inside its walls. How many lives these hitmen took at The Elms is anybody's guess.

The third floor hallway is where many claim to have met an entity wearing 1920's attire. Many claim this...thing...was friendly. Not all agree though. Sherman's Travel mentions it possibly being a former housekeeper that never really left.
