This will sound strange, but I feel the need to correct some snake experts. I, for the record, am not a snake expert. However, I do think it's important to determine the most snake-infested lake that's actually inside of Illinois and not just touching it. Let's explore the numbers

There's an article that A-Z Animals shared a few days ago that named the most snake-infested lakes in Illinois, but #1 is wrong. They say it's Lake Michigan. Let's look at Lake Michigan, shall we?

I know that you know where Lake Michigan and Illinois are, but they're only touching. Lake Michigan is not IN Illinois, so the article about snakes is wrong. 

So, not snake genius, where is the most snake-infested lake in Illinois anyway?

That title would go to Rend Lake (referred to as "Lake Rend" in their article) which is #2 on the A-Z Animals list. Good luck not running into a water snake on Rend Lake, by the way.

For what it's worth, being snake-infested is not a bad thing especially when you're talking about Rend Lake in southern Illinois. As the article points out correctly, the Copperbelly Water Snake is there and it's a threatened species of snake. They are not a danger to humans and only really bad news if you're a frog or a tadpole. (This just in. You're not)

Don't let all the snake talk dissuade you from checking out Rend Lake. It's a huge water place in southern Illinois that really is wonderful even if slithering creatures freak you out a little bit.
