3 Illinois Counties Now Have Mosquitos with West Nile Virus
It's the time of year when mosquitos thrive in our part of America. No surprise then that these nasty bugs have been reported in Illinois with 2 counties now confirmed to have mosquitos with West Nile virus.
I first saw this report of mosquitos with West Nile virus shared on the Illinois sub-Reddit. It's based on a news report by the Chicago Tribune regarding DuPage and Will counties in Illinois. The report states that West Nile virus was found in mosquitos in Medinah, Wheaton and Wood Dale, Mokena, Frankfort and Plainfield.
KMOV in St. Louis reported just a few days ago that Madison County in Illinois also had reports of West Nile virus.
The Centers for Disease Control mention that West Nile virus is often found in mosquitos during the summer and even fall months. The good news is that most who are infected with West Nile virus won't even feel sick. The bad news is that 1 in 150 will develop into a serious illness which can even lead to death in extreme circumstances. That chance increases if it's an at-risk individual with a compromised immune system.
As of this writing, there are no human cases of West Nile virus in Illinois to report, but this story will be updated as new information is released.
